Edessa, the capital of Pella in Central Macedonia, is built at an altitude of 320 metres on the slopes of Mount Vermio, overlooking the fertile plain. It is built upon an elevated Rock with a panoramic view over the lush green plain.
The surrounding mountain ranges are covered with dense forests of beech, oak and chestnut, offering unique landscapes.
The Blossoming Cherry Trees are yet another jewel of Edessa. It is world-renowned for the production of the famous Vodena cherries. Every spring, the vast cherry orchards bloom, transforming the landscape into a white and pink "sea".
Its landscape is dominated by the Edessaios river, which runs through the town and, at the edge of the rock, forms its famous waterfalls, the largest in the Balkans. Owing to its strategic position, the town was an important centre from antiquity, as it was the first capital of the Macedonian Kingdom (before it was moved to Aigai) and a pivotal station connecting Western with Central Macedonia via the Egnatia Odos (Via Egnatia).
Edessa and its wider area constitute an ideal year-round destination, attracting crowds of visitors in every season.
